Frances "Frankee" Tint (Greenberg)

Frances Frankee Tint (Greenberg)

Dear Friends and Family:

It is with sorrow that we must report that our mom, Frankee Greenberg, passed away on Saturday.

She noted on her 82nd birthday, a few weeks ago, that she had an amazing life and never expected to reach that age.  As most of you know, she was first diagnosed with Lupus in 1975 and doctors said that she had only a short time to live.  She stubbornly well-exceeded that prognosis.

In the ensuing years, she worked on a myriad of political campaigns -- from local to presidential.  She earned her bachelor's degree.  She served as a Los Angeles County Commissioner, was a founding member of Project HEAVY (Human Efforts at Vitalizing Youth), and worked for the President Pro Tempore of the California State Senate. Additionally, she was active in the West Valley Jewish Community Center.

In 1993, she moved to Washington, D.C. where she briefly worked in Congress, before moving onto a series of Presidential Appointments in the Clinton Administration, including as Director of Regional Operations for the Environmental Protection Agency, White House Liaison to the Department of Transportation and Chief of Staff at the Federal Railroad Administration. She was also appointed to the President's Interagency Council on Women. For many years, in Los Angeles and DC, she was dedicated to the National Women's Political Caucus.

At age 60, she moved to New York City to embark on another adventure, shepherding public affairs on the long-delayed Second Avenue Subway project.  After decades of defying health issues, they finally caught up with her and following several years in New York, she returned to her adoptive hometown of Los Angeles.  She was determined to live out her remaining time in the city she fell in love with at age seven, when she and her mother took the train from Philadelphia to visit her uncles and cousins.

It was unsurprising that one of her last acts focused on mustering the strength and steadying her hand to complete her vote by mail ballot for the California primary election earlier in March.

Per Mom's wishes, there will be no services.  Her ashes will be interred with her parents, both sets of grandparents, and other family members in Philadelphia.

While we tried to hunt for email addresses for Mom's friends and colleagues we may have missed some people, so please feel free to share as you deem appropriate.

With Love,

Sherry and Gayle Greenberg (Frankee's daughters)

I found this on line.  Pretty impressive. I don't know the actual date of this article.

FRANKEE GREENBERG TO DIRECT EPA REGIONAL OPERATIONS

EPA Administrator Carol M. Browner has announced the appointment of Frankee Greenberg as Director of Regional Operations. In that position, Greenberg will operate within the Administrator’s immediate office, directing liaison between the Agency’s headquarters and its 10 regions and planning and resource functions for high priority regional programs.
Greenberg has served in the Clinton Administration since 1994, first as Chief of Staff at the Federal Railroad Administration and then as White House Liaison and Special Assistant to the Secretary, U.S. Department of Transportation. She helped develop and implement policy on such issues as high speed rail, rail safety and Amtrak.

Greenberg held key staff positions in Congress and the California legislature from 1986 to 1994. She was Special Assistant to U.S. Representative Jane Harman (D-Calif.) where her responsibilities included managing issues relevant to California. Before that, she was an Regional Director to the President pro-tem David Roberti in the California Senate. In both of those positions, she helped develop and implement policy on numerous issues, including children’s health, women’s issues and the environment. Among the issues that she was directly involved with were the Presidential Environmental Forum in Lake Tahoe, Los Angeles harbor, the Los Angeles airport, the Alameda Corridor and Marina del Rey.

For 19 years, Greenberg was a Commissioner of the Los Angeles County Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs Commission and served as chair for several years. She was a founding member and Director of Human Efforts Aimed at Vitalizing Youth, a non-profit Los Angeles organization. She served on the boards and in chair positions with several other California organizations dealing with local matters and children’s and women’s issues. Greenberg’s awards included “Woman of the Year, Los Angeles Inter-Agency Drug Abuse Recovery Programs” (1984), “California State Senate Resolution for Community Service” (1992) and “Los Angeles County Plaque for outstanding efforts on behalf of political advancement of women and selfless commitment to improving the lives of people in the community” (1992). She holds a bachelor’s degree from Antioch University.

Sorry to hear about Frances. We first met in elementary school. If I remember correctly she lived right behind Pennypacker (our elementary school). She was always a pleasant person and all my memories of her very good. My condolences to her family.

Sincerely,

Lou Haenel

We grow up together . I lived on Mohican Street and always called her Frances- we started kindergarten at Pennypacker and finished high school together at Germantown.  I was a guest at her wedding at Beth Shalom. Frankee was very young when she got married I think 19- the last time I saw her was at her Mothers funeral many years ago. The things you remember from your childhood - her birthday was February 20th- may her memory be a blessing   Susan Vederman aka Susie Hyman
